Paquiz Announces Newcomers For 2025 Women's Volleyball Season
CHICAGO – On the eve of the first day of the regular season, Roosevelt women's volleyball coach Nicasio Paquiz Jr. officially unveiled the newcomers for his 2025 Lakers roster.
Kaylee Bayer | Jr. | Middle Blocker | Sun City, Ariz. | Coalinga College
Bayer: I chose RU because of the opportunities it holds to grow on and off the court. Roosevelt has an incredible athletics program where proper care of each athlete in each sport is apparent. Along with the amazing athletics community, there are multiple programs that focus on bettering its students.
Paquiz: Kaylee brings experience and a strong IQ in her position, along with a fierce attitude that will add to the competitiveness in our gym. What's even more impressive about Kaylee is her work ethic and investment in her teammates. We cannot wait to see the type of impact she will have on our program.
Lillian Hallahan | Fr. | Outside Hitter | Geneva, Ill. | Geneva HS
Hallahan: I chose Roosevelt University because of the volleyball program. Coach Nic's desire to win and become a better program really drew me in and made me realize this is a program I would like to be a part of for the next 4 years.
Paquiz: Lillian is a dynamic athlete who brings a high level of competition and championship experience. She will provide great depth to our pin position not only offensively, but defensively, as well. What I like even more about Lillian is her focus and preparation, which will be critical to the success of Roosevelt volleyball.
Alessia Isgrò | Grad. | Outside Hitter | Torregrotta, Italy | Università di Catania
Isgrò: I chose Roosevelt University because I believe it is the ideal place for me to grow both as a student and an athlete. The volleyball program is competitive and motivating, and I really appreciate the team culture and the dedication of the coaching staff. Moreover, RU's strong academic programs and its location in the heart of Chicago open up so many opportunities for my future. I'm excited to represent the Lakers and give my best on and off the court!
Paquiz: Alessia brings a wealth of international experience to Chicago. A versatile pin attacker, Alessia brings plenty of knowledge, perspective, and positivity to Roosevelt. I look forward to having her eagerness and willingness to share her experiences, in our gym - this will only make those around her better and excel.
Cassandra Lange | Fr. | Defensive Specialist | Valparaiso, Ind. | Chesterton HS
Lange: I chose Roosevelt University to further my education and play volleyball at the next level because of its beautiful location and competitive volleyball program! I am also very excited to get the opportunity to go to college with my twin sister who is playing soccer at RU.
Paquiz: We are excited to welcome Cassie to the Laker volleyball family. What stood out most to me about Cassie was her presence on the court - she grabbed your attention with her game. But what stood out even more, was her ability to connect with her teammates. We look forward to watching Cassie's impact at Roosevelt and within our community.
Jessica Maier | Fr. | Setter | Caledonia, Mich. | Caledonia HS
Maier: I chose RU because I've always wanted to live in the city, and this move brings me closer to my family. I'm also incredibly excited to join the volleyball team with a great coaching staff and amazing players!
Paquiz: Jess has been surrounded by volleyball since a young age and has developed into a well-rounded athlete in her position. With her enthusiasm, coach-ability, and team-first mentality, we anticipate Jess to challenge her teammates from the onset. Her outlook and ability to connect with others will only help take Roosevelt volleyball to the next level.
Ella Anne Portu | Soph. | Opposite | Fort Myers, Fla. | Shorter
Portu: I wanted to explore a new environment for college, and felt that RU was the best choice for me!
Paquiz: Ella brings versatility, physicality, and a drive to perform at a high level. Having that in our gym, alone, will help elevate our program and those around her. We feel that Ella has barely scratched the surface and cannot wait to see what she does while wearing the Green & White.
Abigail Wutka | Fr. | Outside Hitter | Macomb, Mich. | Dakota HS
Wutka: I chose RU because I have always wanted to live in the city and when I felt at home while there and while being around coach Nic and the team I just knew!
Paquiz: Abby is a pure athlete, having competed at a high level in multiple sports as a prep athlete. Her versatility and resilience will be major components to her development, as she embraces her role as a pin attacker. She possesses a competitive drive and demeanor that will help push the boundaries within our program.
Lihi Zaibert | So. | Middle Blocker | Marietta, Ga. | Fairleigh Dickinson
Zaibert: I chose RU because of the strong sense of community it builds. The campus is woven into the city, which means there's always something exciting happening just outside the classroom. RU brings people together, and that connection makes exploring the city even better.
Paquiz: Lihi will provide depth, experience, and a championship mentality at Roosevelt. Her coach-ability and desire to excel will only aid in her development and establishes a solid foundation for her continued growth. We believe Lihi is disciplined & focused and look forward to seeing how her career as a Roosevelt Laker will take shape.
