Mick Stewart Joins Roosevelt Football Staff

Roosevelt football head coach Billy McKeon announced Mick Stewart has joined the Lakers staff as a defensive assistant.

CHICAGO – Roosevelt football head coach Billy McKeon announced Mick Stewart has joined the Lakers staff as a defensive assistant.

The Chicagoland native began his coaching career at his alma mater, Lincoln-Way East High School, after finishing his career at the school. He eventually matriculated to Saint Xavier where he was a three-year student-assistant coach for the Cougars. During that span, he worked extensively with McKeon on the Saint Xavier defense, helping the unit lead the country in sacks while holding opponents to less than 100 rushing yards per game.

"There aren't many college students a coach would trust to run a position group, but Mick had that opportunity for two years as an undergrad," McKeon said. "In his first year leading that room, our defense led the country in sacks and held opponents to just 94 rushing yards per game. That speaks volumes about his ability to lead, teach, and develop players."

After his three years with Saint Xavier, Stewart spent a year as the assistant linebackers coach at the University of Minnesota under P.J. Fleck. He then spent the 2024 season at Harvard where he worked with the linebackers and all four special teams units.

"Mick is going to be a fast riser in the coaching industry," McKeon said. "He has an incredible work ethic, a sharp football mind, and a passion for developing players. Mick will bring a ton of energy, is a great teacher, and has a competitive spirit that will resonate within our program. I can't wait for him to get started with us."

The Lakers will open spring practice on March 21 with their 15 practices scheduled until April 27. Roosevelt's 2025 schedule will be announced later this summer.
