Statement on Potential ICE Activity and National Guard Deployment in Chicago
Roosevelt University is aware of and actively monitoring reports regarding the potential for increased activity by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and/or the deployment of National Guard troops in the City of Chicago. While no direct impact to our campus community has been confirmed at this time, we remain committed to keeping our students, faculty and staff informed and prepared.
Should any developments directly affect the Roosevelt University community or campuses, timely updates will be provided through official university channels.
As you move throughout the city and to and from campus, we encourage our community to keep the following in mind:
Carry identification:
- Students are required to have identification with them at all times (e.g., Roosevelt University ID).
- International students should carry a passport/visa or copies, in line with program requirements.
Learn a trusted person’s phone number
Make sure your phone number and contact information is up-to-date in RUAccess
Know your rights and where to find reliable information:
- City of Chicago “Know Your Rights” resources
- Office of International Programs – immigration advising and documentation questions
- Office of Dean of Students – support, referrals and assistance
- If you feel unsafe or witness an incident:
- On campus → Contact Campus Safety at (312) 341-2020 (call 2020 from the wall mounted phones on campus)
- Off campus → Call 911
- For non-emergency campus assistance → Email the Dean of Students at dos@roosevelt.edu
- Free and confidential mental health support is available through TimelyCare if recent news or events are causing stress or anxiety.
Guidelines for Law Enforcement or ICE Presence on Campus
If You Are Contacted by Law Enforcement or ICE:
- Remain calm, respectful, and professional.
- Do not disclose personal information.

Law enforcement or ICE agents are not permitted beyond the lobby of any Roosevelt University building without a valid warrant.
